The population of Canada is approximately 33 million.

More than 80 per cent of Canadians live in towns and cities in the southern areas within 250 kilometres of the United States border.

There are 25 cities of over 100,000 people in Canada. These cities represent only 0.79 per cent of the country's total area.

By applying a rate (1.163%) to the estimated Canadian population as of July 1st, 2008 and keeping it constant throughout the year, Canada's population is growing by one unit every minute and 21 seconds.

This growth is broken down into:

  • One birth every 1 minute and 27 seconds
  • One death every 2 minutes and 13 seconds
  • A net migration gain of one person every 2 minutes and 1 second

At this rate, the population of Canada will reach 33,698,817 by July 1st, 2009.
